Home of the Spartans - Seven Oak Middle School

Title 1/Academic Support

TITLE I is a federally funded program that provides additional instruction in reading and math to students in grades K-5 who are performing below grade level. Our staff instructs small groups ranging from 2 to 6 students either in our Title I classroom, in the student's regular classroom or in the common area just outside the K-3 classrooms. Groups generally meet for a half hour per day, either two, three or five days per week. This instruction is outside the regular reading and math instruction time and does not take the place of classroom reading and math instruction.

Students are selected to participate in Title I reading or math groups after screening and classroom assessments. Classroom and Title 1 teachers review data to determine participation in the Title I program. The program is flexible so that when students meet their goals they will no longer need the program.

Title I also encourages parent involvement at school through hosting events such as our kindergarten parent coffee, books, Bagels and Buddies,  celebration of reading on Dr. Seuss' birthday in March, and other parent involvement time.

Each student who qualifies for free or reduced price lunch brings money to our school to fund our Title I program, so it is important that each family who thinks they might qualify fills out a confidential application even if your child will not need Title I support. You can pick up an application at the school office, or apply on the district's website.

Pioneer's Title I staff are experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated to supporting your child's school success. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, suggestions and/or concerns.
