Seven Oak Attendance Policy

It is critical that you call our office at 541.451.8416, ext. 1803 when your child is going to be absent or late to school. You may call 24 hours a day, as our phones have voicemail. Please call for all emergencies, appointments, as well as illnesses. If you are unable to call, then a written note must be submitted to the office stating the reason for the absence or tardiness. Without a phone call or written note, the absence will be considered unexcused. Attendance is vital to the success of your child. The truancy officer will be notified if your child accumulates too many absences and/or an excess of tardiness.

A written excuse from a parent or guardian must accompany students upon their return to school following an absence, even if a phone call reporting the absence was made. The excuse must be brought to the main office where the student will receive an admit slip. A student who is absent from school or from any class without permission will be considered truant and will receive a consequence such as detention, suspension and/or ineligibility to participate in athletics or other activities.

Oregon Law requires regular attendance. Law defines an excused absence as follows: “…if the absence is caused by the pupil’s sickness, by the sickness of some member of the pupil’s family or by an emergency. A principal or teacher may also excuse absences for other reasons where satisfactory arrangements are made in advance of the absence.”

Seven Oak’s faculty and administration place a very high priority on regular and punctual school attendance. Our school day begins at 8:35 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Should you need to be dropped off at school before 8:00 a.m., you will need to participate in the Boys and Girls Club before school program offered here at Seven Oak. The program will be offered from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Membership fee is $20.00. Financial help is available. You will not be allowed to “hang out” at school before the first bus arrives at 8:00 a.m. Being to class on time is expected and habitual tardiness is not tolerated. If you are continually late to school or you miss school often, you can expect to meet with your teachers and/or an administrator to create an improvement plan. You will receive consequences for tardiness to class. We want you here at school--learning and enjoying! If you are absent from school, your parent/guardian must either call the school (541.451.8416, ext. 1803) to excuse your absence or send a written note (stating the reason for the absence) upon your return to excuse the absence. If you are absent from school and we haven’t received a message from your parent/guardian letting us know you won’t be at school, we will call home to verify your absence. Also, phone calls home will be made if you have been at school but are absent from a class without permission.

Students are expected to report to school and to each class on time, prepared with the necessary materials. Students are given ample time between classes to arrive on time. Students who arrive late to school must check in at the office and receive an admittance slip before going to class. Students who arrive late to class without a written excuse are considered tardy.

The consequences for tardiness are as follows:
